Hoops scores again
Once again the marvelous Hoops has hooked me up phat. While reading the paper early one morning last week, she learned that Grace Slick was going to appear at Austin's Art on 5th gallery with a showing of her original artwork. Attendance was free, but you had to register, so Hoops immediately called the number listed in the paper and secured two slots. We attended the show Saturday night and it was very good. Ms. Slick is not as good an artist as she is a singer, but it would be really hard to be that talented in two different media. Her artwork was very impressive, nonetheless.
After avowing that she would never be so impulsive as to buy a piece of the art, Hoops walked directly to her favorite and did just that. The gallery had a lawaway program, so she took advantage of it, and should actually receive her print in a few months.
Hoops was able to sit next to Grace and talk to her a bit while she signed her autograph. We understood that she would sign the print also. Hoops claimed that in the presence of her "idol" she was rendered speechless, but that was merely her perception....she was as gregarious as ever.
I was able to say my piece to Ms. Slick also. I told her that when I was 21 I sincerely believed that if I could get my mom to smoke a joint with me and listen to Blows Against the Empire, she would be able to understand everything, including me. That never happened, but my mom rocks anyway and I'm so blessed to have her.
Sunday was another day with Hoops and friend Queen Bee. We drove up to Blanco and visited one of the lavender farms there. The day was perfect and the countryside was absolutely gorgeous. We had a tasty lunch in Blanco and then came on home.
Last night I went with Mark to hear Carolyn Wonderland at Ruta Maya. That little gal kicks all kinds of ass. She played with Matt Hubbard, who is a great musician in his own right. Clarence from the Eastside Kings did a couple of songs with the band. A very nice way to spend a Monday evening.
